The ae’lkemi focus is on organic textile processes that represent femininity.

Couture Federation and winner of three WA Design Awards, the couturier’s diversity and wide range of interest’s scope reflects a constant need to contrast many ideas, therefore the forms that take place are a direct result from the conceptual idea through to the individually finished garment.

The garments are recognised for their signature seductive elegance, the emphasis on femininity in the different collections is one consistent thread to all. Previously ae’lkemi has graced the catwalks in New York, London, Milan and Berlin Fashion weeks.

After a decade hiatus, ae’lkemi returned to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia in 2014.

Alvin Fernandez

Winner of three consecutive WA Designer of the Year awards, the only designer ever to do so, Fernandez is a formidable force within a highly competitive fashion industry.

The foundation of the ae’lkemi brand is luxury fabrics and contrasting textures, meticulously put together using precious seed pearls, Swarovski crystals and French lace appliqués, with a strong focus on the female form.

‘The idea is not to hide the body, but to enhance the curves,’ says Fernandez, ‘Women wear couture because they know there is nothing else in the world that is more powerful than being in a dress hand made specifically for them.’

From the first sketches, to the toile, to sampling and production, Fernandez is involved in every aspect of the ae’lkemi business. He says,’ It is important as a designer to not just design, but understand the logistics and maintain quality consistency.’

Having been invited to showcase his work in some of the world’s most prestigious fashion events – New York Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week, G’Day USA – ae’lkemi returned to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia 2014 after a decade to critical acclaim.

In 2015, Fernandez was nominated for his fifth Western Australian Designer of the Year Award.
